Brokenness, to the world this will sound like craziness, but I am not talking-to the lost but to the redeemed for now. Do you find yourself at a point of absolute brokenness because your mind won't let it go, won't let go of your past sins. Did we really think that once we were given grace, we'd be free from our past. Let us understand, we weren't created with a mind that would forget... what is a mind that forgets, that's amnesia and that's not normal. What does this mean for us who have sinned in horrific ways, should we live in absolute depression of our past, while those with lesser sins live on in a different happiness. Don't be fooled, the most simple of sins against a Holy Holy Holy God will be judged by His wrath if not born again, Our debt will not go unpaid. So what does this mean for us that struggle with the memories of the past, well I can vouch that there is no magic remedy. Let us read what David wrote after he had sinned:
"For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me" Psalm 51:3
Oh you can believe me, there are those that actually believed or believe there is some sort of formula that will make you forget. There is not, I was once one of these. Some people think they can get away from their past, many people dealing with depression are so misled and lied to by the medical world... even those commercials about Depression tell you, did you know that 2/3rds of the people on antidepressants still have their symptoms. But hey don't worry, try this new drug as well. There is only one cure, you'll either know by now or you'll find out soon in this blog. We weren't created to forget, we can't forget no matter what, but there is one that does forget and that is the Mighty God, our creator.
Why is the unforgettable mind so useful to us as believers. We all have lived a life of sin, now God saves you and wipes away your sin, how will you know that you were saved by God's goodness? If someone came to you and said, show me God's goodness in what He's done for you. Would you then start to try to and recall what you once were, and yet you couldn't because you had no memory of the past, not enabling you to testify of God's goodness in which He did for you. You see it is the very past that brings us to brokenness, so that we may remember who we once were, but we are not that anymore because of the grace of God. I once thought I wanted all my past memories wiped clean, but I now realize they are mine, and they are what makes me realize the Goodness of God, the Grace of God and it
reminds me of where I was, and where I never want to be again, and it reminds me of His work in me tho it may not be complete, but it is effectual, I'm not who I ought to be, but Hallelujah I'm not who I once was - Dr Voddie Baucham
Brokenness is the perfect response once you understand the above caption. It is not until you realize you are a sinner against a Holy God, yes we have all lied, yes we have all stolen something and the amount or size doesn't matter, yes we have all lusted with our eyes to where Jesus says,
“But I say to you that everyone who looks at a person with lustful intent has already committed adultery with them in their heart” (Matt. 5:28)
So for these sins, we have broken the law of a Holy, Righteous and Just God, this means we have fallen short of His Glory as it says in;
for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23.
So what is the answer for those that haven't truly heard, well as you can see you have sinned against a Perfect God, so if He is a perfect God which He sure is, then He must serve true justice. What does this mean for us, well is says in Romans 6:23
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord".
So what did God do for us so that we may be forgiven? He gave HIs only begotten Son who at the predetermined time willingly went to the cross in place of you and me, paying our wages, or in another sense paying the fine for breaking the law... this is legal and serves two purposes, pays the debt and justice is served. So Jesus went to the cross as if He had lived your life and then installing upon you His life as if you had lived His perfect life. So now it's up to, do you bow down to the Holy God, ask for His forgiveness of your sins right now and be given HIs free gift of grace today, turning from your wicked ways and following Jesus who said in Matthew 16:24;
“If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.
This is the amazing God we follow as born again believers as written in John 3, that one must be born again in Spirit to enter into heaven. It is not just belief, although that is what it says but then also says we must repent, so repent and truly from your heart seek His mercy. For He is the God of mercy, love and compassion, when you understand we deserve nothing but death yet while we were enemies of His, He died for us.
Romans 5:8-10 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.
I pray this gives a new meaning to your past, brokenness is good and it gives testimony to God's goodness. But lets not dwell on it, but may it remind us of where we once were and where we are now only by the Grace of God. For those of you who are searching, wanting to know more please contact us, we would love to talk. Amen
